Standards
Find the standard you work to
Each standard tells you which product you need and what it does with it. Designer draws ISO and AWS symbols. Documentation in Weldia WPS is ISO only, for now.
01 Designer
Drawing and symbols
How Designer uses each standard in a drawing. Partly used means a specific part of the standard, not its complete implementation.
| Standard and its purpose | Use in Designer |
|---|---|
| ISO 2553 Weld symbols on technical drawings: how a weld and its dimensions are written. | Used Weld symbols with sizes, surfaces, modifiers and the tail. |
| AWS A2.4 Symbols for welding, brazing and non-destructive examination. Weldia uses the weld symbols. | Used Weld symbols in AWS mode, sizes as inch fractions on inch scales. |
| ISO 4063 Names and reference numbers of welding processes, for example 141. | Used The process number in the tail of the symbol. |
| ISO 128-50 Showing cut surfaces on technical drawings, including hatching. | Partly used Hatching of adjacent parts at 45°, mirrored parts get the opposite diagonal. |
| ISO 128-22 Leader lines and reference lines on technical drawings. | Partly used How the leader line of a note ends on a weld, edge or point. |
| ISO 6433 Item references on technical drawings. | Partly used Automatically numbered item balloons. |
| ASME Y14.5 Dimensioning and tolerancing on technical drawings. Here only the style of dimensions. | Partly used Dimension style in AWS mode, not the whole standard. |
ISO 128 drawing conventions as described on the current Designer page.
02 ISO and AWS

Two exports of the same joint: ISO 2553 with process 141, AWS A2.4 with GTAW. This is about the drawing, not about WPS documentation.

03 WPS
Welding documentation
Weldia WPS supports ISO documentation. HR documentation will get its own section with a verified catalogue later.
| Standard and its purpose | Use in WPS |
|---|---|
| ISO 15609-1 Content of a welding procedure specification (WPS) for arc welding. | Used The WPS document: its structure, fields and output. |
| ISO 15614-1 Qualification of a welding procedure by testing, for steels and nickel within this part. | Used WPQR with the qualified ranges, used by the automatic coverage check. |
| ISO 4063 Names and reference numbers of welding processes, for example 141. | Used Process numbers in WPS and WPQR documents. |
| ISO 2553 Weld symbols on technical drawings: how a weld and its dimensions are written. | Through Designer Symbols in the drawings inserted into a WPS. |
04 Questions
What does supporting a standard mean?
Need a standard that is not listed? Ask us about it
Does an AWS symbol mean I can write an AWS WPS?
No. Designer draws AWS symbols in the drawing. Weldia WPS supports documentation to ISO only, for now.
Does the application guarantee conformity or certification?
No. We describe specific tools and checks. The professional assessment of a document and the responsibility for the entered data stay with you.
Which edition of a standard is supported?
If your work requires a particular edition of a standard, write to us before you ask for the trial and we will check it.
My contract uses another designation or another standard.
Send us the designation, the edition you need and an example of the required output. We will help you find out whether the product fits before you ask for a trial.
